Cool, I'll try that next year. I'm also going to have more than three plants, so getting them up in the air sounds good to me. Thanks for the tip!

Have you ever tried growing cukes on a trellis? I just started that the other year - they grow up pretty well, and it keeps all of the cukes from laying on the ground - easier to pick, and no flat side (or grown-in dirt) to have to worry about!

Noob: The gamers borrowed it as well. From WikiPedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newbie):

The word newbie is a variant of 'new boy' and comes from British public school and military slang. In the 1960s the term "newbie" also had a limited usage among U.S. troops in the Vietnam War as a slang term for a new man in a unit. Its earliest known usage on the Internet may have been on the USENET newsgroup talk.bizarre. In any case, the term is believed to have entered online usage by 1981.

Yikes, the good ol' days! I was digging around a month or so ago, looking for our favorite MUD "Rivers of MUD", it appears that it recently (within the last couple years) finally went offline. The entire thing is available as source, so I suppose you could download it and build it and host it yourself if you wanted to: http://www.rom.org/

I came across a web service the other day that purports to consolidate your entire web presence into a single portal - combining your website, facebook, myspace, etc. I didn't bookmark it, so I don't know if I can find it again, but it sounded interesting. I think I just need a "Freaking Out" house.

I wonder if this is the equivalent to when we used to go to MUDDs for social connections. Perhaps this is a novelty for those that are newer to the internet, or rather, for those that have not been using it for 15 years. For those of us who have, it might seem like the latest gimmick. What made me think of this is your comment about "a toast on new years". Remember the MUDDs where you would "mote" all of these actions and we thought it was so cool? Also--a side note--did you know that the word "noob" has moved into mainstream culture (ie. middle school) lexicon as a playful pejorative jab? Remember when it was used for/by MUDDers or MUSHers, and video gamers?

Sorry, my math is bad. Should have been "Delicious and StumbleUpon combined have roughly 30 times [not 60] the userbase of Diigo and ShareThis combined"

I still haven't been able to find a count of registered users, but this is almost as good. According to Alexa, over the past 3 months, both Diigo.com and ShareThis.com have averaged about .002% of worldwide visitors. That is the "Percent of global Internet users who visit this site". StumbleUpon got over .08%, and Delicious got nearly .04%. To me this looks like Delicious and StumbleUpon combined have roughly 60 times the userbase of Diigo and ShareThis combined.

In order for Diigo to have won the popularity contest, either the Delicious and StumbleUpon users just don't care, or they were somehow excluded from the rankings because they won the "Blogger's Choice" award. If that's the case, it would mean that Diigo actually ranked 3rd in the voting, which makes a lot more sense to me.

I will definitely take a look when I have some time. It sounds cool. I've always been a little leery of the file storage/backup services, but as a bookmarking tool, it might fit the bill. Particularly the RSS feed management sounds promising. I don't subscribe to a lot of feeds, but I think I would more if I found a really good feed manager. Thanks for the tip!
